Pops Fernandez was signed to OctoArts in 1981 at the age of sixteen.
Although she didn't think she would stay long in show business, her gold
single "Dito" was a constant radio favorite and her audience steadily
increased. In 1982, she launched her debut album entitled "Pops". In the
same year, she was tasked to co-host the weekly primetime musical/variety
show "Penthouse Live!" with future (and currently estranged) husband Martin
Nievera. And so her niche in the celebrity scene was securely carved.
Touted as the Philippines' Concert Queen, Pops has enjoyed innumerable
successes onstage. Her 1983 debut concert "Folks... Meet Pops!" found a
repeat the next year. From then on, she became a regular, not only at the
Folk Arts Theatre, but also at the Araneta Coliseum and the ULTRA (now the
PSC-PhilSports Arena). She has also performed in provinces and abroad;
touring Japan, Guam, Hong Kong, Italy and the United States.

Her popularity is also credited to her visibility on television. "Penthouse
Live!" enjoyed five exciting years of airplay, followed by "Martin and Pops
Twogether", though it only lasted two years. Currently, she co-hosts the
Sunday noontime show "A.S.A.P.", where she's been stationed since 1995. For
this, she has won Best Female Musical Variety Show Host at the 1999 KBP
Golden Dove Awards. Her other TV appearances reveal the actress in her, as
seen in the drama anthology "Spotlight" on GMA 7 and the mini-series
"Nagmamahal Pa Rin Sa 'Yo" on ABS-CBN 2. She has also made movies; her
comeback movie, "Linlang", was made nine years after her previous movie.
